Seven of Asia's strongest destroyers have been launched, why isn't the second batch under construction? Or a major change.

The Type 055 destroyer is China's newest guided-missile destroyer, this guided-missile destroyer has a full load displacement of more than 12,000 tons, is China's first 10,000 ton destroyer, at the same time this guided-missile destroyer is equipped with 112 units of the vertical launch system, capable of firing all types of missiles, so the Chinese navy's newest 10,000 ton guided-missile destroyer is also known as the world's most powerful destroyer.

alienmilitary - According to the construction plan of Chinese Navy, the first batch of Type 055 destroyers will be built 8, which means that the construction work of the 1st batch of Type 055 destroyers will be completed soon, but until now, the construction plan of the 2nd batch of Type 055 destroyers has not been made public, and no shipyard has started the production of the 9th Type 055 destroyers.

The Chinese navy currently has 39 shield ships, the second-largest air defense destroyer owning navy other than the U.S. Navy, and compared to the U.S. Navy, most of the Chinese navy ships have a shorter service life and newer hulls, so there is more room for improvement. At the same time, the Chinese navy will adopt a continuous improvement approach in the construction of a particular type of ship.

The Chinese navy built several Type 052C guided-missile destroyers in the early years, and these destroyers were built for a total of 10 years, but the Chinese navy also made some improvements to the shield ships in these 10 years, and thus developed a new Type 052D guided-missile destroyer, which is more advanced than Type 052C upgrade. 

So although the Chinese Navy is currently building only eight Type 055 guided-missile destroyers, it is highly likely that the Chinese Navy is building these eight 10,000-ton destroyers while improving the technology to build a new type of 10,000-ton destroyer with even more powerful performance, and this new type of future 10,000-ton destroyer will certainly be far superior to the existing Type 055 in many ways.

Based on the existing eight Type 055 guided-missile destroyers, it is highly likely that the future 2nd batch of Type 055 will use an all-electric propulsion system, as the technology of all-electric propulsion is already mature for the current Chinese Navy and has been tested in detail on some ships.

A few years ago, there was a photo circulating on the network, one of China's YuTing class tank landing ship was equipped with an electromagnetic cannon, which also made China become the world's 2nd country to develop electromagnetic cannon, as to why China did not install electromagnetic cannon on the first batch of 8 Type 055 missile destroyers, mainly because of the late appearance of Chinese electromagnetic cannon, and at that time Type 055 missile destroyers have already begun to build! The first batch of Type 055 destroyers' electrical system was not able to support the use of electromagnetic guns, so they did not use this new weapon.

At the same time, if the Type 055 destroyer uses all-electric propulsion, it will save a lot of space on the ship, which means that this new destroyer can carry more missiles, which will greatly improve the combat capability. 

So in the next few years, once the Chinese Navy completely solves the problem of all-electric propulsion and electromagnetic guns, it is estimated that the second batch of Type 055 destroyers will enter the accelerated period of construction, and by then it is estimated that both north and south shipyards will have several Type 055 destroyers of the second batch built and launched into service.
